1 · Place

Where?

The land your study is about, and the sheet around it. Add neighbours to make a region. Borders are used only to know what is inside — they are never drawn.

2 · Data

What?

Tick the layers you want on the sheet. The first five come from open sources and are fetched for you; the last three are yours, as a spreadsheet saved as CSV.

Every layer is one of four shapes: a field (values on a grid, like rain), marks (values on places, like a region's harvest), events (things with a date, like a law), or a series (one figure per year, like exports).

Have your own data? Most research does. Save a sheet as CSV with the columns shown on the cards above — a place, a year and a value is enough for marks; a date, a title and a citation is enough for events. Anything you cannot map to those shapes is a good question to ask on GitHub.
3 · Years

When?

One axis for every layer. "Normal" is what a year is compared against — the WMO standard is 1991–2020. A water year runs October to September in most of the Mediterranean; pick January for a plain calendar year.

4 · Take it

Your files

Three small files describe your study. One command on a laptop with Node fetches the data, draws the ground and the rivers, and checks every figure. The result is a page like the Iberia example — yours to host anywhere.
